High-quality perioperative care has the potential to make a positive impact on the care of people with complex needs who could benefit from surgery. This type of care may also help to identify people for whom a non-surgical alternatives might be a better option.
In the face of a limited evidence base the clinical community is pioneering approaches to care for older people before and after surgery. The spread, replication and adaption of these approaches needs more study. THIS Institute is launching a new fellowship to examine the conditions that enable spread of promising approaches to care across organisations, and how these approaches are replicated and adapted in diverse settings.
The fellowship is suitable for applicants who are currently in post at UK universities or other research-intensive environments (eg charity, non-profit think tank or NHS organisation). The applicant should have a background in health services research and knowledge or experience in the care of older people and perioperative care will be beneficial.
Applicants should be experienced qualitative or mixed-methods researchers who can lead the project independently while being highly-skilled to work collaboratively with colleagues at THIS Institute, NHS Elect’s Acute Frailty Network and the Perioperative Care for Older People Undergoing Surgery team.
