THIS Institute Director Professor Mary Dixon-Woods FAcSS FMedSci has been recognised for her ongoing contributions to the field of healthcare improvement research with an honorary fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).

The UK’s medical professional body awards honorary fellowships to recipients who may not necessarily hold a medical qualification but “have rendered exceptional services to the science or practice of medicine.” Professor Dixon-Woods – a social scientist – joins a distinguished group of around 140 honorary fellows.

“I am truly delighted to become a fellow of the RCP, especially in this, the 500th year of its founding,” said Professor Dixon-Woods. “This is much more than a personal accolade. It is a sign of how the medical profession values multiple disciplines in pursuit of its mission of driving improvements in health and healthcare. I am very proud to be helping to build the evidence base for that mission through my leadership of THIS Institute, which, funded by the Health Foundation, works in partnership across the UK.”

Professor Dixon-Woods’ fellowship was conferred at a ceremony on 25 July in London. She is one of six new honorary fellows in 2018.
